Indisputably
the largest and most comprehensive book available
on Noritake, Noritake Collectibles A to Z:
A Pictorial Record & Guide to Value presents
more than 1000 pieces in classical, Art Nouveau,
and Art Deco styles with both luster and non-luster
finishes are presented, as well as a wide variety
of post-war bone china figurines and recent
collector-series items such as Valentine's Day
hearts and Easter eggs. Since 1904, Noritake
has been bringing beauty and quality to dinner
tables around the world. Superior artistry and
craftsmanship, attention to detail and uncompromising
commitment to quality have made Noritake an
international trademark during this past century.
The Noritake of today grew out of a trading
company that was originally established by the
Morimura Brothers in New York in 1876. This
trading company imported chinaware, curios,
paper lanterns and other gift items. In 1904,
the forerunner of the Noritake Company was established
in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near
Nagoya, Japan. The goal of this first factory
was to create western style dinnerware for export.
It took until 1914, however, to create the first
porcelain dinnerware plate that was suitable
for export. The
time span covered in this book is greater than
any other book in this field, including non-dinnerware
"Noritake"-marked porcelains made between 1908-1995.
Most of the items presented in this comprehensive
volume have never before been seen in books
on this subject. Chapters reviewing the history
of the Noritake Company and trends in Noritake
collecting, as well as photos of extremely rare
pages from Noritake sales books are included.
A comprehensive essay regarding the identification
of Noritake backstamps with exclusive full-color
photos of each stamp round out the book. The
high-quality photographic materials are very
clearly and carefully organized, making the
book extremely easy to use as a reference tool
for both novices and experts. Author David Spain
is an avid collector and chronicler of Noritake
and lives in the great Northwest.
