New
listing! Take your pick of very hard to find Frankoma Pottery
collector Christmas plates in mint condition, designed by Joniece
Frank, daughter of John Frank (founder of Frankoma Pottery). 1
King of Kings from 1970. 2 O Come Let Us Adore Him from
1981. 3 The Wise Men Bring Gifts from 1983. Each plate
has the impressed Frankoma mark on the back along with Jonice
Frank's signature and the J.F. copyright for the year the plate
was issued. Frankoma Pottery was founded by John Frank, born in
Chicago on January 31, 1905. A university art teacher, he accepted
a position at the University of Oklahoma's newly created Ceramic
Art Department where he taught courses in ceramics from 1927 to
1936. Frank met Grace Lee Bowman on January 30, 1928, and they
married the following September on the bride's twenty-third birthday.
While Frank was still teaching, the couple purchased a small building
in Norman, Oklahoma to house their new business, Frank Potteries,
which later became Frankoma Potteries. John Frank passed away
in 1973, and his youngest daughter Joniece took over operations.
A fire hit the plant in September, 1983, but the Frankoma molds
survived because of John Frank's foresight in arranging for storage
of the molds in a fireproof room. The plant was quickly rebuilt
and production restarted by July, 1984, and Frankoma continued
production until December 31, 2004.
These Frankoma Joniece
Frank designed Christmas plates measure approximately 8.0"
in diameter, have holes for a wall hanger on the rear, and are
in excellent condition, coming to you direct from a Portland,
Oregon estate collection of vintage Frankoma pottery exclusive
to Collectics.

Cool
shape and color is featured in this mid-century vintage Hull Pottery
ceramic that's a large size at approximately 12.0" x 11.5"
at the widest points and 2.5" high, and it could be used in
a variety of ways- a serving dish, an ashtray, for hors d'oeuvres
or nuts, or just as a cool ceramic display on a stand. We love the
rich dark glaze with speckle highlights contrasting the top portion
only for some added design flair- see the photographs. However,
the shape is the most interesting aspect of this particular piece...it
practically screams fifties and sixties design! Although best known
for their pastel matte glazed ware, some of the Hull Pottery lines
were higher gloss as is this one. The pottery is in excellent condition
and is properly marked impressed on the bottom Hull USA and the
model #. |

listing! Pink Earth clay ceramic mermaid is a whimsical and fun
wall hanging that's sure to generate questions and complements from
your guests. We particularly love the long flowing hair and the
rich acquamarine colors, but others we showed her to were struck
by the detailing and colors of her fish tail and the realistic surface
coloration of her rock outcropping she leans against. The facial
features are particularly whimsical and fun, with big round eyes
and rich full lips rendered in small bits of clay and hand formed.
The piece measures 9.5" high and 7.0" wide, and it's slightly
curved on one side and the top to add realism and depth to the wall
hanging. It has a wire hanger on the back which goes through 2 loops
which are molded right into the clay for a safe and secure foothold,
and it's impressed in the back "Pink Earth". It's in excellent
condition and comes to you direct from a Reno, Nevada estate collection.

Excellent
pair of Ecanada Art Pottery flower pot planters in the style of
Wedgwood Jasperware. Each pot is in very good condition and measures
approximately 6.0" high and 7.25" wide at the top opening. The pottery
is marked on the bottom "Ecanada Art Pottery" and "Made in Canada".
The Ecanada Art Pottery of Hamilton, Ontario was the genius of one
man, George Emery (l88l-l959), who produced his art pottery
until 1953 when Ecanada ceased operation. The versatile pots are
in excellent condition and will really make a design statement in
your home. rb |

Whimsical,
fun, and extremely well done ceramic stoneware face jug is less
grotesque than many of this genre and rather unique in that we surmise
this one is of a woman. The glaze is dark and rich, almost glowing,
and we love the fine details such as the individual stems for eyelashes,
large pink lips, and don't miss the diamond stud earrings. We also
like the ripple hair effect that makes this jug look almost as good
from the rear as from the front, and it's just a very well done,
fairly modern example of the form. This face jug measures approximately
7.0" high and 7.5" in diameter, and it's signed on the
bottom Maryane Hawthorne 2003 #12. It's in excellent condition,
part of a Macon, Georgia estate collection of unique southern pottery
and ceramics. /85 |

Very
fine Weller Pottery decorated bulbous Velva vase with handles standing
5.75" high and approximately 6.25" wide at the widest point. The
top opening is 3.0" in diameter. The brown matte glaze is very rich
and has just a hint of gloss, and the front decoration is cleverly
interpretive. You don't see too much Weller Pottery anymore, and
this piece is in excellent condition with no damage, and it's properly
marked on the bottom Weller Pottery, the artist's mark, and the
production markings 541-12R.120 |

Sure
not to last, this new listing of shells playing cards may not literally
be pottery but when you see it you might switch your allegiance
to seashells. The four whimsical crabs playing cards are each enjoying
a cigar while looking at their card hands while ice cold cans of
Coca-Cola sit on the shell card table. Right down to their feet,
the whimsical character depictions are sure to become a conversation
piece in any room in which they reside. In the photographs, we tried
to capture the fun details like their eyes, mouth, cigar, and the
fact that you can see exactly what cards each player has. The piece
is really pretty beyond all that, in excellent condition and measuring
approximately 4.75" high and 5.5" in diameter. Before
residing in their new home to be after Collectics, the shell family
was living in a Rumson, NJ estate. |

This
mint condition ceramic shoe is an excellent example of mid-century
California pottery at its best. The rich color and glaze really
gives it a realistic quality when combined with the highly detailed
shape right down to the unbuttoned shoe flap and button holes. It's
an elegant and stylized shape reflecting the attention to form that
made vintage California pottery stand out. The shoe measures approximately
9.5" high and 8.75" front to back, and it looks so real
you'll want to put it on! Part of a major midwestern collection
of California pottery, the shoe is marked on the bottom "Calif
USA" along with the style number. |

Cute
vintage ceramic music box in the shape of a highly detailed young
girl holding a rose and a basket of flowers. The colors are vivid
and the realism evident, with decoration not just on the face but
throughout the piece right down to the folds and patterns on her
skirt. It's in working condition and plays a nice song when the
mechanism is wound on the bottom, and the girl turns as the music
is playing and the music mechanism unwinds. Good detailing and workmanship,
it's in very good condition save for a tiny flea bite on one of
the flowers, direct from the shelf of a Vermont country estate.

Pretty
marked Italian Deruta ceramic hand painted dish standing approximately
1.75" high and 8.0" in diameter. The floral and leaf hand
painted decoration is exceptionally well done in typically vibrant
Italian colors and it's incredibly lifelike, and it combines painted
decoration with raised lines in the pottery to create additional
decorative and three dimensional effects. We love the antique forest
green trim line, and the plate is ready to hang on the wall or looks
great on a display stand. On the bottom is the mark "Deruta",
and it's in excellent condition direct from a Palm Springs, CA estate.

Super
set of 4 Japanese egg cups with hand painted singing birds decorating
the surface. We are particularly fond of vintage egg cups that have
the cracked egg tops, and all 4 of this matching set have that design
element to great effect. Some of the cups retain the original paper
Diamond Japan paper label underneath. All 4 vintage egg cups are
in excellent condition and measure approximately 3.5" high
and 7.0" and 2.25" in diameter, right off the shelf of
a Greenwich, CT country house. |

Exceptional
Canonsburg Pottery Company Butterscotch Ironstone egg plate has
space for 12 eggs in its 9.25" diameter with the added benefit
of being oven proof, dishwasher proof, and detergent proof. Canonsburg
Pottery Co. was formed in 1901 and remained in business until 1978,
well known for their durable and stylish wares and avidly sought
still today by collectors. While Canonsburg china and regular plates
are somewhat more common, the ironstone egg plates have become nearly
impossible to find. We particularly like the Butterscotch pattern
with the speckled glaze effect that just seems perfect for a vintage
egg plate. It's in mint condition and fully and properly marked
on the back with the Canonsburg Pottery Company trademark and markings.

Mammy cookie jar is a classic of black memorabilia, but alas this
one- while marked McCoy - is a reproduction albeit with significant
age but in our view not McCoy. Truth be told, there were only 2
McCoy Pottery mammy cookie jars that ever went into production,
and sadly this is not one of them. Of course, we noted in a quick
search of a major online auction site last night that 100% of the
alleged McCoy mammy cookie jars were fakes. We are totally honest
with our valued visitors here at Collectics, so this mammy cookie
jar - while it has good decorative value - is not in fact original
McCoy and thus being sold as a decorative piece versus the $500+
or so an authentic McCoy mammy would likely bring at retail. This
reproduction McCoy mammy cookie jar is still old and quite well
done, and it's in very good condition with no damage and only minor
crazing to the glaze except one small horizontal area on the rear
which is slightly more pronounced - see next to last photo. It's
part of a major Atlanta, GA estate collection of fine vintage American
pottery and illustrates that even experienced collectors can be
fooled by fakes. /55 |

Fun
rooster planter is done in a cream, off white ceramic and would
be a whimsical addition to any kitchen or dining area. With its
head crown and flowing tail plumage, a rooster makes a particularly
nice planter in which you can plant a variety of greenery or flowers
to enjoy each day. The piece is in very good condition with no chips
or damage and measures approximately 9.25" high, 9.0"
head to tail, and 3.5" wide. This rooster planter comes right
off the shelf of a Hilton Head, SC beachfront condominium.

New
listing! Old Italian ceramic pair of bird planters that would
look great individually but are very rare to find as a matched pair.
Each of the two features a bird perched atop a wicker basket that's
a great size for a small plant or flower or just to keep loose items
around the home. Each measures approximately 7.25" high, 7.25"
wide, and 4.25" deep, and they're marked on the bottom "Made
Italy". Given the age which is at least from the 1950s, they've
survived in pretty good condition except for a single chip and crack
on one of the pieces on the vine on which the bird perches, and
both have a number of tiny glaze flecks which can be repaired or
left as you so desire- for a piece like this, we recommend leaving
them as they don't detract whatsoever from the visual experience.

Whimsical
pair of ceramic wall plaques, probably German, each measuring approximately
5.75" in diameter, in excellent condition direct from an East
Hampton, NY estate. These are old and not reproductions, highly
detailed and colorful depictions of a y oung man blowing his horn
and a young lady holding her bouquet of flowers. Both boy and girl
sit on the side of a fence while a bird perches beside them, and
note the detail in the clothing and a particularly the faces. The
plaques are marked on the back with "F37", and they're
ready to hang on the wall. |

Vintage
1970s hand painted egg plate with hen, one of the best examples
of this work we have ever had here. We love the speckled green of
the 6-egg egg plate, and the chicken has vibrant feather colors,
a great face, and covers a center compartment that's useful to have
a complement to your deviled eggs. It's got a great look and is
a hard to find size at approximately 6.75" in diameter and
1.25" high (plate) and 4.0" high with the hen. The bottom
is marked with incised marks "Elizabeth Kim 1971", and
it comes to you direct from a Palm Springs, CA Italian ceramic consignment
exclusive to Collectics.

Very
cool midcentury ceramic donkey planter has a rich brown glaze and
striated white to brown decoration on the donkey's head and on his
back around the planter portion of the pottery. We love his fun,
whimsical facial expression looking down a bit with ears raised,
and his 2 front legs are crossed for a little added flair. This
vintage 1950s / 1960s ceramic donkey planter measures approximately
10.0" head to tail, 4.5" wide, and 10.25" high to
the top of his ears. It's in very good condition with a bit of roughness,
probably original to the manufacture but possibly from age wear,
around the perimeter of the planter portion of the ceramic donkey.
The bottom of one foot is marked USA; we believe this is probably
Royal Haeger missing its paper label as is the case with many (most)
Royal Haeger works. |

Cool
marked Takahashi San Francisco Le Chef, hand painted ceramic mug
that features a whimsical character at the bottom with big eyes,
big nose, and a super big handlebar mustache that's sure to evoke
a laugh. We love the contrast between the creamy off white ceramic
of the top 2/3 of the vessel combined with the more rustic brown
lower third that includes the whimsical face and ears sticking out
from the side. The bottom is marked with the Takahashi San Francisco
mark, Le Chef, and Hand Painted. It's in excellent condition and
even retains the original paper label although faded and hard to
read, and it stands approximately 5.25" high and 3.75"
in diameter at the widest point. |
