Whimsical, fun, and extremely well done ceramic stoneware face jug is less grotesque than many of this genre and rather unique in that we surmise this one is of a woman. The glaze is dark and rich, almost glowing, and we love the fine details such as the individual stems for eyelashes, large pink lips, and don't miss the diamond stud earrings. We also like the ripple hair effect that makes this jug look almost as good from the rear as from the front, and it's just a very well done, fairly modern example of the form. This face jug measures approximately 7.0" high and 7.5" in diameter, and it's signed on the bottom Maryane Hawthorne 2003 #12. It's in excellent condition, part of a Macon, Georgia estate collection of unique southern pottery and ceramics. /85
